Primarily I am an all-round community interpreter. During my career I have undertaken many types of community-based interpreting assignment including Local Government, Educations, Mental Health, ATW, the Arts and Religion to mention just a few areas. I have been a member of NRCPD, VLP, MPS, SOMI, DBI, NUBSLI & ASLI for many years.
I have been a service co-ordinator and managed interpreter teams with ongoing mentoring and supervision. I regularly support the development of undergraduates and trainee interpreters. I have provided specialist interpreter services relating to Deafblindness in discreet genres and am happy to take a combined assessment approach for S7 DB Care Act Assessments. With over 30 years of experience, I’ve become a skilled interpreter working with Deaf people who have a degree of visual impairment or who are Deafblind.
Besides being a NRCPD Registered and Qualified interpreter for Deafblind people using DBM / Block methods, I am easily able to modify an interpretation by using Visual Frame, Hands-On, Tactile and Social Haptic communications as well as adjusting to idiosyncratic styles.
I have worked extensively throughout Europe in the Deafblind interpreting field and am a keen supporter of the charities Sense & DBUK. As a member of DBI, I regularly attend the world conferences which have been in Australia, Canada, France, Romania & Netherlands.
Justice sector related assignments have long been a regular work domain. I have substantial expertise working in police settings with suspects, victims and witnesses for which I have undertaken specialist A.B.E. and S.O.I.T. training.
I am a highly experienced court practitioner working across County, Magistrates, Family and Crown Courts as well as in the court of protection.
I often work in chambers as well as post court services such as Prisons, Probation and YOT Services. I have a full DBS (Enhanced Disclosure) with full counter terrorism security forces clearance to 2024 - NCIS / MPS.
In the last 25+ years I have gained a wealth of experience of in-vision television interpreting work.
Regularly I have interpreted on live news broadcasts and also pre-recorded programs across various terrestrial and satellite television channels. These include SkyTV, Channel 4 Television, ITV, Maverick, Hat Trick TV & BBC.
Further media experience has been gained from the other side of the camera unto interpreting on the production side of TV program making.
Finally , I have a wealth of experience in theatre working in pantomime, musicals, plays, integrated and accessible formats with both Deaf and hearing performers, crew and Directors.
